Week 3&4 - Summer 1 (2024)

Our story focus for the past two weeks has been 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. The children really enjoyed this story and the activities associated with it. They planted a sunflower seed each and wrote/made marks on their plant pot sticker. The whole school planted sunflowers! The children were very interested in finding out how long the sunflowers would take to grow and enjoyed watering them. They learned a song about the parts of a plant and did activities relating to planting and growing. We also read the story 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle and many more.

The children have taken part in lots of water play outside. They have been using a range of resources and developed great mathematical and problem solving skills.

We have sung a range of songs and rhymes. Our Poetry Basket poem focus has been 'A Little Seed'.

In our phonics sessions, the children have been thinking about words starting with the same phonemes (sounds). They are working really hard at this!

Concept Cat taught the children the concepts of 'longest' and 'next to'. The children have been using this language in their play.

On Friday, the children played in the sensory area in the school grounds. they enjoyed snack outside and played games with their friends.

The children are excitedly waiting for the chrysalides to turn into butterflies, which should be very soon!
