Chinese/Lunar New Year
For the last two weeks, the children have been learning about Chinese/Lunar New Year. This has been really interesting to learn about and has developed the children's understanding of the world. The children listened to the story of The Great Race which tells the story behind the order of animals for each new year.
We had a curiosity table in our room which hosted a range of Traditional Chinese household objects as well as items linked to the celebration on Chinese New year. We were really grateful to the loan of two beautiful silk shirts from a parent. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring these items as well as role playing with them in the home corner.
The children enjoyed learning all about the Chinese dragon dance and even had a go at doing it themselves. The topic ended with a fantastic day dressed up and eating Chinese food before heading off for a well earned half term break.
