STEM Week

As part of St Jude's STEM week, Year 5 were set two challenges.  The first was to research a professional within the STEM community and to find out their contribution.  The second was to create a 30 second timer.

We discovered lots of facts about Frances Allen and presented these to the school.

A large percentage of the class chose to experiment with pendulums to act as a timer.  We tried out different weights, changed the length of the material attached to the weight and experimented with angles and use of force.  Another group decided to create a line of dominoes, whilst another experimented with the use of water.

All children thoroughly enjoyed the STEM challenge and it was inspiring to see how the children collaborated and built on their ideas to create a product.
