World Book Day

World Book Day

Today was World Book Day and the whole school visited Waterstones Book shop in Fareham.  All of the Reception class went on the minibus, singing songs and rhymes - "The Wheels on the bus", "There was a princess long ago", and "5 Little Monkeys" .  Once we arrived all the children sat down and listened to the story "I want my hat back" by Jon Klassen.  All the children used their World Book Day tokens to buy a book.

Paul Geraghty

The author Paul Geraghty came to visit our school.   We loved listening to him and watching him draw the Hoppamaleon.  He used large felt tips so our children had a go too!

Off to the Book Shop

We have a Book Shop in our classroom this week and the children have been busy buying things there.  There's not just books for sale but pencils, rubbers, puppets and little wooden bendy toys - just like in Waterstones.  The children took care to check how much the items were and matched or counted out the correct coins.

The Book Shop

In the afternoon all the parents were invited in to read with the children.  It was such a lovely day we decided to go outside and have our stories in the Reception playground.  Look at all the different places where our families chose to read!
