Curriculum

Great Fire of London Curriculum Map

Children will be accessing the National Curriculum. 

 

The key subject areas are:

English, Maths, Science, Religious Education, ICT, History, Geography, PE,  PSHE, Art and Design, Design Technology, Music and Philosophy. 

 

Autumn Term

The theme for this half term is 'London's Burning!'. It will provide an “umbrella” for children’s learning, and where possible it will be linked to all subjects within the curriculum.

 

Literacy

Read extracts taken from Samuel Pepys' diary to find out what it was like to witness the Great Fire take place.  Use our imagination to write our own diary entry.  We will also imagine we are news reporters and write a newspaper article detailing the events.

 

Maths 

*Counting in steps of 2, 3 and 5 from 0, and in tens from any number forward and backward.

*Recognise the place value of each digit in a two-digit number (tens and ones).

*Identify, represent and estimate numbers using different resources e.g. a number line.

*Compare and order numbers from 0-100 and use <, > and = signs.

*Read and write numbers to at least 100 in numerals and words.

*Solve addition and subtraction problems.

*Recall and use number facts to 20.

*Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, including recognising odd and even numbers.

*Use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length of objects.

 

Science- Uses of Everyday Materials

*Investigating properties of materials.

*Identify and compare the suitability of everyday materials.

*Investigate which materials are flammable and why the houses in Pudding Lane easily went up in flames.
