Curriculum

English

This term our classic text is 'King of the Cloud Forests' an interesting story by Michael Morpurgo. This text will provide us with opportunities to cover a wide range of genres, among these are

• Narrative (Including Myths and Legends)
• Recounts
• Persuasive
• Non-chronological reports

The children will continue to develop their writing skills through improved and varied sentence structure and the spellings that will be learnt include those with prefixes and suffixes.

Maths

This term we will focus on the children's understanding of number. It is important to have a good understanding of place value to enable them to accurately find 1,10, 100 and 1000 more than any number. They will order numbers and be able to compare them, they will also learn how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. All of these skills will be developed in a range of situations using measure and money to solve problems. The class will continue to practise their times tables and related division facts.

Science

This half term the children will be investigating 'Living Things and their Habitats' and we are lucky to have our wonderful school grounds where we can begin our investigations. We will be looking at the range of environments and how these change and the animals that live in them and how they adapt. We will also explore the classification keys that are used, to help understand how these living things can be grouped, identified and named.
