Jonah and the Whale

September starts with the Season of Creation in the Church and the school have this as their first focus in RE.  In Year 2 the children learn two Old Testament stories - Noah, and Jonah and the Whale.  In the Resource Provision we used "Godly Play" to help the children learn, act out and share the story.  Godly Play uses just a few simple pieces of small world to encourage the children's own imagination and curiosity in exploring the story and coming to understand the meaning of these Bible stories.  Often RE can be very abstract for Deaf children as discussion is based around ideas.  Using Godly Play means that the children can access this through hands on experience of play and talking together.
