Week 2 and 3 - Autumn 2 (2023)

Our book focus for the past two weeks has been 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and 'Dipal's Diwali'. Our song focus has been 'Incy Wincy Spider' and 'He's got the whole world in his hands'. The children have learned many British Sign Language signs to use when communicating.

In addition to the above, we have also been reading a wide range of books and singing other songs and rhymes. The children have been learning to say rhymes independently, recalling stories and predicting what might happen next/at the end of the story.

The children have been learning about Diwali - the Festival of Light. They watched a video clip of families celebrating Diwali and learned a song about it. The children made rangoli patterns using paint, sand and mark making tools. They practised their pencil control doing Mehndi patterns.

We talked about Remembrance Day and why we have it. Some of the children had been to watch parades at the weekend and had been to Church. They talked about their experiences. The children did poppy pictures and painted a poppy stone.

Some of the children's work from Divali and Remembrance Day went on our prayer table and on the wall.

We have been focussing on literacy skills. The children have been distinguishing between the words and pictures in books and pointing out letters of personal significance such as letters in their names. They have been saying the initial phoneme (sound) in their name and learning to blend sounds together to hear words.
