Week beginning Monday 7th March 2022

The children enjoyed lots of physical play again this week. They played on the adventure playground, wooden play area, pre-school playground and used the tyres and wood to balance and practise some new skills.

We have continued with The Very Hungry Caterpillar story. The children made a giant caterpillar to put on the pre-school window. They also made their own small caterpillars and butterflies. The children did finger painting and made a caterpillar with our student. Mrs Breakwell made caterpillars on the craft table with the children using lolly sticks, pom poms and googly eyes. The children used their maths skills with Mrs Cantillon to stick the correct amount of food on the sheet, matching numeral and quantity together. Mrs Ray made some caterpillar cakes with the children which they had at snack time. Some children wanted to take their cakes home to eat. We did a Hungry Caterpillar Yoga session and sung a Hungry Caterpillar song.

The children did lots of maths activities this week. We looked at patterns and noticed patterns in our environment. The children used a range of resources to make their own patterns such as red, blue, red, blue. Some of the children were able to continue the repeated pattern whilst others made their own patterns! The children collected sticks in the outside area and talked about who had the longest and shortest tick. They then continued to explore measure in pre-school and compared resources and themselves using language such as ‘longest’, ‘shortest’, ‘tallest’ and ‘shortest’.

In the hall, the children played a game of ‘Beans’ to warm up and then played with the rockets. They talked about who could throw the farthest and sat in the space where the rocket landed.
