Week beginning 18/10/21
We have had a great last week at pre-school before half term. The children have been learning about dinosaurs which they have really enjoyed. Mrs Ray put some dinosaurs in water and froze them in different containers. The children had to find ways to get them out of the ice. They experimented by using the heat from their hands, they used hammers to break the ice and used warm water to melt the ice. The children played with the coloured dinosaurs and sorted them into colours, they then used their subitising skills to know how many objects were in each group without counting them. We introduced mathematical language such as same, different, most, fewest, one more etc. We read dinosaur stories such as 'Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School' and looked at factual books about dinosaurs. The children drew pictures of their own dinosaurs and coloured some dinosaur pictures.
The children explored colour through games such as the Peppa Pig game and did painting whilst exploring colour mixing.
Throughout the week, we explored shapes. The children played shape games including standing on different shapes on the shape mat and guessing the shapes from clues. They also played the 'Dotty Dinosaur' shape game and talked about how the shapes were the same and different from each other.
The children used a range of ICT resources in the blackout tent including torches and a projector.
After a very tiring but enjoyable week, we are looking forward to a lovely half term.
