Week beginning 05/10/20
The children have enjoyed exploring the new adventure playground this week. They have been gaining and practicing a range of skills including spatial awareness, problem solving, co-ordination, balance, climbing, negotiating, turn taking, role play and many more! We have been doing lots of outdoor maths such as counting and sorting the acorns, leaves and conkers. The children explored the bug hotel and found a range of minibeasts. They have also been comparing objects according to size and number and learning about one to one correspondence when counting by pointing to each object giving one number name per item. The children collected conkers and acorns to bring into the classroom to use in a range of ways such as in the role play area, making patterns, sorting etc.
We have been talking about the change in season to autumn looking at weather and animals. Some of the children made a hedgehog picture and watched video clips of hedgehogs. We talked about how the children would need a coat and wellies each day and compared this to their summer clothing.
A favourite story this week has been 'The Three Little Pigs'. Some of the children acted out the story, others watched the story on the interactive board and also listened to the story read from the book by the teachers. They drew pictures of what happened in the story, coloured pictures and sorted picture cards into the correct order.
Some of the children have been exploring shape and measure. They have measured each other and talked about who was the tallest and shortest.
The 'Doctors' role play has been very popular this week. Mrs Cantillon was bandaged, given medicine, food and drink and had her hair done all at the same time!
