Week Beginning 04.05.20
Dear Parents and Children,
We hope you continue to be well and healthy.
*To help build on your number fluency complete one set of maths starters each day. These are exactly like we would do in class. Remember, this should be a short task and if you need to make mental jottings that is fine. See the document saved below – Maths Daily Starters
* Work your way through the maths tasks set this week.
*Keep up with the daily reading! Read a range of texts and ask your grown up (or an older family member) to ask you questions about what you have read to develop your comprehension skills.
*Look at the English Learning document and complete an activity each day.
*Choose 6 common exception words that you know you find tricky – use the tricky word mat given to you at parents’ evening and go through Look, Cover, Write, Check as you normally do with spelling practise. Please also find a copy on the class page. Ask a family member to give you a spelling test to check how well you have learnt your chosen words!
*It has been great to see your learning about Australia! You have been really busy finding out so much. Please see the Topic Learning document to find out what we are learning next about Australia.
*On Friday 8th May it will be VE Day. If we were at school there would have been some wonderful celebrations and learning going on! So, take a look at these resources and have a VE Day celebration of your own at home. Visit https://www.fareham.gov.uk/leisure/ve75.aspx or see the pack in our Year 2 page.
The activities included are:
Make bunting for a party, thinking about the colours of the UK flag
Try making a war-time recipe from the past
VE Day wordsearch
VE Day Quiz (why not link up on social media to play against extended family members!)
*Find out what you can about VE Day and why it is important to still remember today.
There will be coverage on BBC on Friday 8th May E Day 75: The Nation Remembers.
At 11am on Friday 8 May, BBC One will lead a poignant two-minute silence to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. This national moment of remembrance will pay tribute to heroes of the past and present.
*Read through the Powerpoint, ‘Doubting Thomas’. Were you surprised by Thomas’ reaction? How would you have reacted if you had been Thomas? Design your own story map or comic strip to retell the story. Remember to include words or phases (if a story map) or speech or thought bubbles (if a comic strip). This will help to support your drawings.
