Week 6

We have had a fantastic week doing Christmas activities and games. The children have been very busy on the craft table making cotton wool beards for Father Christmas/Santa. They did some finger painting making Christmas trees and stars and made baubles out of craft resources. The children made gingerbread men which were delicious. They  played Christmas games on the interactive board where they had to design their own Christmas jumper and learned about symmetry!

Our book focus was 'One Shining Star'. The children used both their subitising skills (knowing the quantity without counting) and also their counting skills for larger quantities. They are getting very good at recalling the Nativity story and could name Mary, Joseph, Jesus, the three kings, shepherds, angels and the animals. The children also played with knitted nativity figures and re-enacted the story.

The children played the Kim's game where they looked at a small number of objects in a box, named them and then closed their eyes. Mrs Cantillon took an object away each time. The children had to try to remember the missing object and represent the quantity using their fingers. Some of the children also led the activity and were brilliant teachers!

The staff and children dressed up for Christmas Jumper Day. Some of the children wore their Christmas jumpers on other days throughout the week. The children were very excited to do this and we raised money for the charity - Save the Children.

We managed to do some outdoor play and had some lovely hot chocolate on our return! We are looking forward to another great week next week with lots of lovely treats and games throughout the week!
