Week 4

The children have continued to learn new songs and rhymes this week and practise well known ones. They did lots of music and movement activities such as ‘Sleeping Bunnies’ and ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’. The children made stars using craft resources and made star biscuits whilst singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’.

Whilst playing in the water, the children played with five ducks and a mummy duck. They sung ‘5 Little Ducks’ and used their mathematical skills to subitise how many ducks they could see. We are continuing to develop the children’s subitising skills by asking, ‘What do you see?', ‘What do you notice?’ and 'How do you see it?'. This encourages the children to look at a small number of objects and know how many there are without counting. It also helps them to understand that numbers are made up of other numbers such as understanding that two is made up a one and another one. Subitising helps to creates secure number sense before counting. The children also played with the fish in the water tray and sung, ‘1,2,3,4,5’. They used nets to catch the fish and used their super subitising skills to know the quantity.

The children made spiders using playdough, loose part resources and craft resources. They sung, ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ and made spider puppets and marble painting spider webs.

We continued with our ‘The Three Little Pigs’ story. The children made pigs from paper plates and talked about which house was the strongest and what their own houses were made from.

As part of our ‘Road Safety’ learning, the children made traffic light brownies which were delicious!

In phonics, the children have been practising making voice sounds and identifying the phoneme (sound) at the start of words.
