Week 2 - Summer 1 2023
We have continued with our theme of minibeasts this week. The children learned about Giant African Snails. Miss Lea, Reception Teacher, brought the snails into pre-school. The children were very interested in finding out about the snails and watched them move very slowly.
Our caterpillars are growing. The children check on them every day and are looking forward to them becoming butterflies. They did lots of activities this week including making minibeasts from recycled materials, painting a snail, printing with minibeasts, playing a matching minibeast game and practising their subitising skills using The Very Hungry Caterpillar cards.
The children have had lots of outdoor play playing on the climbing equipment, bikes and scooters. They also enjoyed exploring the mud kitchen with the minibeasts! They took part in The Very Hungry Caterpillar yoga session and were very good at this. The children learned lots of new Makaton signs relating to minibeasts and the food the hungry caterpillar ate.
We ended the week with a hall session. The children played the traffic light game, took part in ring games such as 'The Farmer's in his Den' and used the flipper flappers (material) to move in a range of ways whilst learning and responding to directional words and instructions.
