Week 1 - Summer 1 2023

Our topic for this week and next is 'Minibeasts'. Our story focus is: 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The children have enjoyed learning about minibeasts and found a worm in the pre-school playground. They put it in the 'bugnoculars' and used the magnifying lenses and pots to investigate!

The children learned that bees make honey and had honey on toast. They used craft material to make a honeycomb effect on paper using paint whilst learning more facts about bees.

The children played with pretend minibeasts in the soil and made their own minibeasts from recycled resources. They used playdough and pipe cleaners to make worms, spiders etc. Some of the children made butterfly collages and did butterfly printing, exploring symmetry.

We enjoyed the sunshine this week and played outside. We had four new children start pre-school. Our 'older' children made them feel very welcome. It was lovely to welcome our new children and families to pre-school.

Mrs Cantillon ordered some caterpillars which have arrived. We are going to look after them and watch them grow and change into beautiful butterflies in our Butterfly Garden. The children are very excited about this. It was very successful last year and we released them into the wild area on the school field which we will do again.

Please see the links below relating to some of the things the children have been doing this week. You may like to look at some of this at home.
