Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh

This half term our topic has been  "All About Me", so we have been looking at the work of Vincent Van Gogh.  We started off by looking at his paintings of Sunflowers.

As part of the children's transition into Year One we had read "Errol's Garden" and planted our own Sunflowers - so we picked some and painted our own Sunflowers.
We read the books "Katie's Sunflowers", and looked at paintings by friends of Van Gogh.  Siena's Mummy is an artist.  Together they made a beautiful picture of Sunflowers.
We then looked at Vincent Van Gogh's self portraits.  We thought about the colours he loved and how he used them around his portrait.  How would the children paint around themselves?  Like sun rays, or a halo or in little swirls?
