The Butterfly Lion Theatre Trip
Year 3 had a fantastic time at Chichester Festival Theatre, watching the adaptation of the novel The Butterfly Lion. Although we have been reading another novel written by Michael Morpurgo, The Wreck of the Zanzibar, we have not read The Butterfly Lion, so the children were excited to learn about this different novel. Before the show, the children took part in a workshop, which was designed to help the children explore the characters, scenes and themes, and understand how the original novel had been adapted for stage. Some of the class were invited to go onto the stage and take on the role of some of the characters. We also learnt about the special lighting effects and use of music, as well as props, which was a key part of bringing the novel to life.
In the afternoon, we were treated to a fantastic performance. The story travelled through different eras and countries and we were all transfixed by the use of props which made the characters and creatures all seem so real. The message of the story was keeping memories alive, and I am sure we will all remember this story!
