Spring 2 2023 - Week 3

We have been exploring Health and Self-Care this week. In particular, we have been doing activities around caring for our teeth and the dentist. The children have talked about personal experiences of the dentist and identified healthy food and drink. They have learned new songs about cleaning teeth and have been practising cleaning laminated teeth and teeth models.

The children have taken part in lots of mark making activities including drawing on the interactive board, making masks, printing with paint and rollers, writing and doing Scribble Club. The children listened to a story about a book character called 'Scribble' who goes on adventures and tells stories. The idea is that children give meaning to marks and can make marks/scribbles/recognisable drawings/writing as they wish. It takes away the worry for some children who might be reluctant to draw, if they feel they cannot draw specific objects. Whilst the children were mark making, the teachers commented on their own marks/drawings and did not ask the children what they were drawing. The children soon started to comment on their own marks and began to tell stories. This approach enables children to develop a wide range of skills including communication skills, physical skills and literacy skills.

We ended the week with a play on the climbing equipment. It was a very cold day so the children had hot chocolate and a biscuit to warm up when we returned to pre-school. We then did action songs and played with the stretchy cord which the children always enjoy.

Another great week!
