Southampton Art Gallery Trip
To combine our ongoing topic of ‘The Arts’ and our history topic centred around ‘The Mayans’, year 3 made a visit to Southampton Art Gallery.
The children were treated to an ‘Art Masters’ tour, where they gained knowledge on famous artists throughout history and had the experience of seeing art work up close. Some of the artists’ work we saw, were Monet, Antony Gormley and Lowry. There was a good mixture of both old and modern art work and a variety of different mediums. The children were encouraged to look for different clues within the art work to tell them more about it.
After this, the children took part in a hands-on workshop, where they developed key skills and techniques in using clay. The children made Mayan heads and decorated them using beads and powdered paint.
