As part of our current history topic, The Arts, the children have been learning about the legacy of Roman art, with a particular focus on mosaics. The children found out that many floors of Roman buildings were often richly decorated with mosaics.
After researching this important part of Roman culture, the children looked at different mosaic designs to provide them with inspiration to design their own. For the base of the mosaic, the children used an ice cream lid, and pressed clay into it. Following this, the children pressed into the clay different materials, like pulses, seeds, beads and shells, to create their own pattern.
