Rocks Investigation

Our new topic in science is rocks and soils.  Over the past couple of weeks, we have been investigating different kinds of rocks.  To kick-start our topic, we were each given a type of rock and had to describe its appearance. We were then challenged to look at the properties of our rock and find other rocks that matched the properties of ours.  Following this, we recorded all of our observations in our books.

We have also carried out an experiment to find out which rocks are permeable, how hard each rock is and which rocks fizz (this is a sign of them being sedimentary and having the shells of dead sea creatures within them).

We recorded all of our results in a table and used an identification key to name the types of rocks they were (igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic).
