Rainbow letters - Letter Formation
This half term the children will learn the whole alphabet. Over the coming weeks they will have letter formation to practice for homework. It is really important that your child holds their pencil correctly - so please make sure they hold it between their index finger and thumb (holding fingers), with their middle finger underneath - acting as a pillow for the pencil. Make sure your child holds the paper steady with their other hand. If you want to see how we practice this in school then head over to our page about PE and click on the Kinetic letters swirl where you will find a section on letter formation (click the yellow pencil). It might sound a funny place to find it, but this is about developing their core strength, gross and fine motor skills. Your child can practice their letter formation lying down on the floor - it helps build up their core strength and their shoulders.
Tips to help:
Make sure they hold their pen / pencil correctly.
Make sure they start the letter in the right place!
Does the letter sit on the line? - When we say down - Bump" - the letter bumps on the line!
Make sure they keep their pencil on until the end of the letter.
If you have any questions about the homework please just come in and ask us - we are here to help!
