Dear Year 3
Welcome back after half-term. I hope you all enjoyed the week. Last week marked the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday and Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday when some of you may have had pancakes. In Italy they also have Shrove Tuesday and this marks the end of a fun period called 'Il Carnevale' and is called 'il Martedo Grasso'. In Italy they eat 'il fritelle' which are long fritters like doughnuts.
They have the greatest Italian Carnevale in a city called Venice where they wear masks.
This week I would like you to make and decorate a mask. You can use any card you have at home (maybe from a cereal box) and decorate it however you wish. You can then colour it and decorate it how you wish. Maybe with coloured paper, material or wool, whatever you have at home. A template is below with a link to a website if you want to read more about the celebrations with an adult.
