Forest School

Forest School

This half term, Reception class have been having Forest School with Dr Collins - and we've loved it!

Each session would start with the children doing their own risk assessment and looking for possible dangers and things to look out for.  They learnt to mark these with a red flag.

The children spent time looking to see how things were changing with the start of Spring.  They learnt how to measure the buds to see how they grew.  One very wet day they planted lots of trees and we've watched how they change as they become established and grow.
They spotted bluebells and the children learnt that some plants are endangered - we don't pick these, but some, like daisies, we can pick.  The children learnt to make daisy chains.

We would then gather  round the fire.  The children learnt all the rules to keep themselves safe and would also stay on the outside of the circle of logs when they came to sit down.
We cooked food over the fire.  The children cooked marshmallows, smores, popcorn and toast.  While it cooked the children would share what they thought had gone well the week before.

Each week the children then enjoy a story round the fire and use this as a starting point...

Stanley's Stick

They had lots of fun working together and learning how to build dens.
