Floating and Sinking
Mrs Adams gave the children half an hour to make a boat. They used a range of resources and could explain why they were using each material. The children used two different tapes to make the resources stick together. Each child then named their boat and this was recorded on a sheet. The children then predicted if they thought each boat would sink or float and voted on this by putting their hands up to answer the questions. Some of the children could explain why some boats floated and some did not.
The children continued with the above theme by going back to the craft table to make a different boat with what they had learned. They also collected a range of resources from nursery and tested to see if they would sink or float.
