Chinese New Year

The children have been learning about Chinese New Year recently. For one week, we had a choice of different Chinese foods for snack. The children enjoyed the food tasting - some of the favourites were spring rolls, prawn crackers, rice and noodles.

The children learned how to say 'Happy New Year' in Chinese and watched video clips of Chinese lanterns, the dragon, made 'rats' using collage materials (learning that it is the 'Year of the Rat') and learned the importance of different colours.

The children did mark making sheets relating to Chinese New Year and also drew their own pictures of dragons, rats and other objects. They also practiced writing numbers in Chinese using paint and other mark making tools.
