St Jude’s MUSIC Autumn 2019
Year R have made an excellent start during our classroom music lessons. Singing lots of songs and starting to use the classroom instruments with control. They especially enjoyed composing a song about ‘Super-tato’ and singing ‘Superhero’ songs with actions.
Year 1 have been, using musical instruments to create firework music, listening to music from the ‘Nutcracker Suite’ and playing instruments along to ‘March’. Some of the children also had the opportunity to lead the class singing during the music concert.
Year 2 have been exploring sounds by composing and playing animal movements with sequences. They used the song ‘Down in the jungle’ and composed lyrics for an Eco-song linking to the class recycling topic. We send a copy to Blue Peter!
Year 2 Recycling Song
EYFS AND KS1 Nativity.
Fantastic performances of ‘A Miracle in Town’ from all of our children! Singing and performing with confidence. Well done everyone!
Year 3 have been learning basic music reading and playing skills on the RECORDER. They have gained different recorder ‘karate belts’ after playing certain pieces with confidence. They finished the term with a fabulous performance of all the pieces we have been learning PLUS an extra Christmassy tune. Jingle Bells!
Year 4 have been leaning to play the UKULELE. Playing the strings to create a fanfare and 3 notes to play along to our class song. They also sang in 3 part harmony and played together during our music performance which was led by 3 students.
During the autumn term of music year 5 have been listening and playing music from the Victorian music hall era. They selected pieces that were performed to parents during the ‘Victorian day’. The pieces included: Street seller songs, playing leaning on a lamp post (on Ukulele) and Consider yourself-from Oliver!.
Year 6 have been listening to J.S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue . They used this piece to compose a class composition of their own version of this piece. Using as many instruments as they could, the class worked very hard to re-create this piece.
Here is a sound-clip of our ‘Toccata and fugue’.
Year 6 'Toccata and fugue’.
The KS1 and KS2 classes finished the term with a musical performance assembly, showing our learning to the whole school and parents.
Our choir practises on Tuesday (Y2 and Y3) and Thursday (KS2) lunchtime.
We have been learning new songs and performed a selection of these during our End of Term concert. We have been working on singing in two parts and different styles. The choir have performed at the opening of Fareham Academy Christmas Fayre and sang Christmas carols at the church Christmas party for the elderly.
‘Sing around the Christmas tree’
St Jude’s decided to send an entry for the ‘Virgin Radio 12 Schools for Christmas competition’.
We added new lyrics to a well-known Christmas song and tried to be ‘Christmassy, Cute, and Creative.’
Here is the audio of our school singing our entry ‘Sing around the Christmas tree’.
A really enjoyable project for all involved.
