Holy Week

Holy Week

Each day, in our last week of the term, the children have been listening to the story of Holy Week.  Wherever we can we encourage the children to dress up and act out the stories we read to help them remember and understand what we are talking about.

Palm Sunday

The children listened to the story and then made their own palms to wave and wrote special messages on them.  It was a beautiful spring day so we processed through the grounds, waving our palms.  We then acted out the story of Jesus entering Jerusalem and the children waved their palms to welcome Him.

They learnt a song to help them remember what Hosanna means - Praise God.  We talked about what else they might have said - listen to the children's voices in the video to hear what they said.

The Passover meal

In Reception the children learn about Judaism, so we shared our own Passover meal.  The children tried matzos, parsley and horse radish, and we talked about what it all means to someone who is Jewish and the special stories they remember at Passover.

The Last Supper

The children listened to the story of the Last Supper and we acted it out together.  Some of them remembered how this links to what we do in Mass.

We read the story of the Garden of Gethsemane and the story of Good Friday.  The children thought carefully about how they might have felt if they had been there.  If they had been at the foot of the cross - what would their prayer have been?
