It's Advent and the children are learning all about what that means. Our prayer corner is decorated with purple because we are getting ready for Jesus's birth. The children helped make the Advent wreath with evergreens, purple baubles and purple candles.
The Advent Wreath
Every day we have lit the candles - 1 for the first week, 2 for the second and 3 for the third week of Advent. We have shared the story of how the angel Gabriel told Mary she would have a baby and the rest of the Christmas story so that the children become really familiar with it. Every day we would open a door on our "Advent calendar". This has been special cards which the children wrote with a special job for each day - it might be helping someone who is stuck, or playing with someone we don't usually play with, or making an extra special effort to help tidy up. All of these are things to help each other, show love for each other and God.
We would then open one of our Christmas stockings - inside was a gift, a little Christmas decoration, for each of the children...but whose turn would it be? Every day the teachers took it in turns to describe the child's best qualities and the children would guess who it was...they always managed it! It was a lovely way to celebrate the lovely qualities of all the children.
For our Forest school afternoon the children noticed lots of bright yellow leaves so we made a large Christmas star. Everyone worked together to fill the space inside the stick star.
The Christmas Star
To warm up we all sang a song (not a Christmas one!) - watch carefully - the children managed to do do the whole thing without singing! And then one final time at top speed.
Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes?
Heads, shoulders, knees and Toes? No! Cheese on toast - we were keeping warm!
The children worked hard on their letters to Father Christmas...
They enjoyed sharing Christmas books...
Using equipment to make Christmas pictures...
Making patterns on Christmas trees...
They made some great Christmas cards for their families...
Their little Christmas bags were full to the brim!
Happy Christmas Everyone!
